Weather permitting, Monday, June 4, MoDOT and its contractor will begin work to repair and resurface a little over 13 miles of the north and southbound lanes and shoulders of US 61 from just north of Route OO in Pike Country to Route B near Silex in Lincoln County. This work should take about a month and is expected to be completed the first week of July.
The job was bid simultaneously with another in Lincoln County, which consists of resurfacing almost 10 miles of the northbound lanes and shoulders of US 61 from Route K and V intersections to just north of Route F near Eolia. Work on this portion of the project has been tentatively scheduled to begin June 22 with completion expected in August. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones. Motorist may encounter rough and uneven pavement and construction equipment entering and leaving the roadways.

The Community Concert Band has three summertime fundraisers planned. One June 12 a "For Fun" Trivia Night will be held. This will include several "speed" rounds as well as a special "kids" round. Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year whole regions find themselves in the dark. Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leaves people without the means to communicate. In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been Amateur Radio. These radio operators, often called "hams" provide backup communications for everything from the American Red Cross to FEMA and even the International Space Station.
Montgomery County "hams" will join with thousands of other Amateur Radio Operators showing their emergency capabilities June 23 and June 24. The "hams" will set-up at 100 Blue Stem Lane in Hawk Point, MO. This annual event called "Field Day" is the climax of the week long Amateur Radio Week sponsored by the ARRL, the National Assoc of Amateur Radio. The operators will simulate emergency communications using emergency power supplies and portable antenna systems. The public is invited to visit the "Field Day" site and see Amateur Radio demonstrations.

The 15th Annual Car Show Sponsored by the Dam Few Cruisers Car Club. The car club is a non-profit organization with profits from events donated back to organizations in the Vandalia and surrounding communities. The clubs also awards an academic scholarship in memory of Ted Seeley to an area high school student who plans to pursue a career in auto body or mechanics.
The car and truck show registration will be from 9am to noon. There will be drive-thru judging with judges provided by the club. Club members display their vehicles but do not compete for the awards. A burnout contest will be held at approximately 2:30pm. You may enter the burnout contest without being in the car show. Awards will be present at approximately 3:30pm. Food concessions will be on the grounds. The fish fry has been replaced this year with choice of ribeye and tenderloin sandwiches.

The Lincoln County Health Department Second Annual Critter Camp will be held June 25-29, from 9am to 2pm. Critter Camp is for kids 9-12 years old. There is a low cost registration fee. If campers bring in a 5lb bag of pet food, there will be a $5 discount. Throughout the week, campers will go through animal education and even visit the state park and the fairgrounds. Friday, June 29 at 6:30pm will be family night for the campers. Campers will have the chance to educate their parents on what they've learned in camp.
The day after camp Saturday, June 30 from 10am to 3pm will be a low cost vaccination and micro chipping, PALS will attend hosting a mini adoptions from 10am to 2pm. Weather permitting, Monday, June 18, US 54 between Bowling Green and Louisiana will be closed to traffic to replace the 83 year-old bridge at Noix Creek near Vera, and the following Monday, June 25 the 53 year-old bridge at the North Fork of Noix Creek will also clsoe for replacement. The bridge replacements should take approximately 40-50 working days re-opening the first week of August.

June 15-19: Route B in Lincoln County from US 61 east to MO 79 at Elsberry, 10.2 Miles
June 26-28: Route A in Lincoln and Warren Counties from Route DD in Truxton to Interstate 70 in Warren County, 12.97 Miles
July 2: Route OO in Lincoln County from Route C to the end of State Maintenance near Chain of Rocks, 1.9 miles.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zone with flaggers and pilot cars controlling traffic. Signs will be in place to alert motorist fresh oil and loose rock chips may be present at various locations along the roadway. Construction equipment will be entering and exiting the work zones. Some delays should be expected; motorist are urged to use alternate routes during these times. Please use extra caution if you must travel through the work zone areas. All lanes will be open to traffic at the end of each work day. All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map. The Bread For Life Food Panty is an all volunteer organization. The pantry depends upon the community to donate food and money to assure food is available for those in need. In addition, grant funding is sought to help provide food and personal care items. The pantry serves any family in Lincoln County who falls at or below the federal poverty guidelines. The pantry reserves the right to serve a family who may be above the poverty line but, experiencing hard times due to family crisis or natural disaster. Family may visit the pantry once per month. There is no discrimination against any person for any reason. Clients need not be associated with a church or the Greater Troy Ministerial Alliance.

City of Troy Notice of Public Hearing National Register Nomination Project Underway in Troy Historic District.
In 2010 a historical/architectural survey was completed of the Downtown Troy Historic District. This year the City of Troy has received funding through a Missouri Department of Natural Resources Grant to finance, in part, the completion of a National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) Nomination Form for the Downtown Troy Historic District. Sixty percent of the project costs will be paid for through the awarded grant. The remaining forty percent has ben graciously provided by the Troy CVB, which allows the nomination project to be completed at no cost to the City of Troy. On Thursday, June 28 the City will hold the first of two public meetings. This meeting will be at 5:30pm at Troy City Hall, 800 Cap-au-Gris. Ms Keenoy will be present at this meeting and will provide a visual presentation. This will be a great opportunity for the citizens of Troy ask questions or bring copies of any history they would like to share in regards to downtown Troy.
