Shirley Howrey, a longtime friend to many and a leader in Moscow Mills and surrounding areas in Lincoln County has been diagnosed with radical lung cancer. Howrey is scheduled to have surgery on July 21, 2008. In an effort to help offset costs involved to combat this condition, a dinner, auction and dance will be held in her honor. Rep. Ed Schieffer will be the emcee at the event held Saturday, July 26, 2008, at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Troy. A hog roast dinner will begin at 5 p.m. The fundraising auction will immediately follow dinner. David Thornhill is generously donating auctioneering for the event. The auction will continue until all merchandise is sold. Area businesses are adding items to the list daily. The Country Gentlemen will entertain after the auction. To help acclimate students, Principal Chris Chaney and the Ninth Grade Center Staff will host a freshman orientation day on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 from 8 a.m. to noon. Students will learn how they will function in Troy Buchanan High Schoold until their new facility opens on October 1, 2008. During orientation, students will run through a simulated schedule, take school pictures and meet teachers. Buses will run a full schedule if students need transportation. The week prior, student schedules and picture packets will be mailed to students.
